THE COMPANY TODAY

In 1949 the immunobiological production was excluded from the State Health Institute and included to a newly established State sera production. In 14. 2. 1950 this organisation was changed to national enterprise Biogena under the Main Administration of Biologicals in the Ministry of Health.

One of the factors, which contributed to a certain improvement and development of the field was the point of country defence. Medical situation was considered as an important strategic factor. Penicillin Plant in Roztoky u Prahy was built in that time and it was a source of dry blood plasma. Soon came another partner – National Enterprise Léčivé rostliny Zbraslav.

All the time, actually since the 30's, there was a lack of operation areas, especially laboratories; site for building or an area after closed companies were searched. Finally a former factory for sweets Orion in Vinohrady, which moved to Modřany, was acquired. Then followed quite a demanding adaptation since there is a great difference between a chocolate producing factory and production of sera and biological preparations. Rebuilding was accompanied by already spread bad quality of work and many problems, with which Biogena could fight properly thanks to its director MUDr. Ludmila Mlčochová, who worked from the beginning in the State Health Institute and in imunobiological production.

In the year 1953 followed another reorganisation; the Main administration of Biologicals was cancelled and established Main Administration of Medicinal products, it included the aforementioned 3 factories and Research immunological institute (RII) was established; in 1958 was established Institute for sera and vaccination substances (ISVS) and Biogena was included to it together with RII. .

In the 60's, preparation of immunomodulator developed, the goal of which was to support the human immune system. ISVS included, apart from Biogena, also the newly established Slovak Imuna and Velaz enterprise, the goal of which was production of laboratory animals. Research was concentrated especially in ISVS and the main goal could be named as cell immunity (research of MUDr. Pekárek); besides production took place own research; there was a close cooperation with medical faculties from the Charles University, with workplaces from the Czech Academy of Sciences, especially in Brno.

From the main personalities, it is necessary to mention at least Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Vonka, DrSc., a great specialist in virology a anti-tumourous vaccines or Doc. MUDr. Dimitrij Slonim, „father of Czechoslovak vaccines“, author of the method to prepare vaccines against variola.

Some preparations were successfully exported, e.g. Albumin produced from blood derivatives to the whole Europe. Blood derivates are an interesting chapter in general, e.g. for stomatologists and dentists, there was the preparation Norga (normal gamma globulin) as a protective immunopreparation.

Witnesses certainly remember chewing gums Sevak, which enriched the „market“ in the socialism era. Chewing gums contained diluted bacterial lysates, which were the product during the production of vaccines. They diluted during chewing and has a positive effect, as we know from the currently famous pastilles. This was actually an effor to provide the public with a preparation available over the counter. In the 80‘s, production was cancelled from economic reasons.

After the coup in 1989 there were quite long talks about he attitude of the state to immunobiological production and what will be preferred. It should be noted that a definite conclusion was not made but it is sure that in 1994, there was the company Sevac Inc. established based on the ISVS and in year 1996 excluded the separate unit in Bohumile, which is not observed anymore. In the meantime, Sevac Inc. was kept in the State property fund and sale of 100% shares was planned to a selected customer.

State supported the production of blood derivates but on the other hand, the state tasks were cancelled as well as associated donations. In year 1996 the state decided to deal with its interest to exclude all other productions from Sevac Inc. The company Sevapharma Inc. was established, the only shareholder of which was Sevac Inc. and it was registered to the Companies Register on 1.6.1997.

In 1999 the company was sold in a public tender to Bioveta Inc. In Ivanovice na Hané and a major change occurred in 2006 when Imuna Pharm, a.s., become the sole owner.

For accuracy, we shall summarize the objective of th company, the perspectives of which are certainly interesting. The company is specialising in the production of immunological preparations and reagents for immunochemical and biochemical diagnostics. It provides a service to finalize pharmaceutical products for other subjects

Products may be divided to 4 areas. In the first place, they include diagnostic and hyposensibilisation allergens, which constitute the most important group. The second field includes Immodin - normalisator of impaired immunity, which is unique in the Czech scale as well as worldwide. The third field includes bacterial and viral vaccines, especially those, used in a compulsory vaccination of children. This filed has a significant export potential. The last filed includes a great range of immunochemical and microbial reagents for diagnostic laboratories. The range supplemented with other products, such as enzymes, powders, laboratory culture media.
